Dinner With The Family

As a family there are restaurants that we go to because they are family friendly. The servers are friendly and courteous and they don't rush us to eat and run. We on occasion try a new restaurant or go out with family and friends to a restaurant that we normally would not go. The last Mexican Restaurant we went to, we waited thirty minutes to get seated and when we were seated were seated in a section that is walled off from the rest of the restaurant. Sitting around us were about seven other families with one to four children. Our waitress came and brought us menus and took our beverage order. When she came back she brought us our beverages and asked if we were ready to order. We ordered our meals and waited for the food to be brought out. Fifteen minutes later, our food arrived, the person bring the food to us was not our waitress, but we asked her for refills on our beverages anyway. she said she would tell our waitress and that she would be with us in a minute or two. The original waitress came back to the table about ten minutes later and handed me our bill and turned to walk away. I stopped her and asked for a refill of every one's beverages, she took our glasses and left. Less than a minute later a girl arrived at our table with a large plastic tub and asked for my wife's plate, my wife handed it to her and she then reached over and took my children's plates and placed them on top of mine and placed them into her tub already filled with other dirty dishes. I raised my voice and told her I was not finished eating, she looked at me and reached into the tub and started to take my plate out of the tub. I told her never mind and she walked away. We waited for several more minutes for our waitress to return with our drinks. My wife saw her walking past the doorway and called out to her. When she came to the table, my wife asked where our drinks were, she told us that she thought we said we were done. So we decided to skip the refills and just leave. My wife went to the car with the kids and I paid the bill. As I handed the bill to the man at the cash register I told him that I did not get to finish my meal. He looked at me as if he did not understand me, so I repeated what I had said. He was a Hispanic gentleman, so I repeated my statement in Spanish, and he still did not say any thing. He just took my debit card, swiped it and handed it back to me without saying a word. I took my receipt and walked to the bar and asked for a manager. After about ten minutes a woman came out to the bar and announced that she was the manager. I told her about the poor service and about the bus staff taking my food while I was still eating it. She then raised her voice and told me that my wife said that you were done, so she took all of the plates. I corrected her and said my wife said she was done and handed her the plate, the staff member just took the other plates. I told her we saw our waitress four times, when we ordered drinks, when ordering food, getting our bill, and chasing her down to ask where our refills were for our beverages. The manager then asked me what I wanted, I told her I want a comped meal should I ever return, or a refund for my dinner. She told me she could not give refunds or free food, I was getting angry, so I asked "how about an apology for poor service and being rude". The manager then told me, that she has done all she can do, was there anything else that I needed. I told her no and left. Our waitress had other tables other than ours, she was running around talking and chatting with her other customers because they were ordering drinks from the bar. most of the customers she was serving were young males who were actively engaging her. She did not get a tip from me, but she was going to get tips from her other tables where she was serving alcohol. I can understand the priority of a young college girl is getting big tips for the alcohol sales.  Apparently this restaurant thinks it's customer base are the customers that purchase alcoholic beverages.  Family friendly restaurants that provide customers with good service will draw families to them creating a regular customer base, this restaurant needs customers with families, the food is not really all that good, it is rather bland for "authentic" Mexican cuisine.  Their reliance on liquor sales to customers will be its demise.
